The Perfect Summer Cocktails – and How to Enjoy Them

There’s only a little bit of summer left here on Long Island. We can’t think of a better way to enjoy the last of it than with a refreshing cocktail (if you’re of legal age, of course).

Here are some classic summer cocktail recipes to prepare during your next outdoor gathering or dinner. Stop by Port Jeff Liquors to stock up on supplies, then get to mixing!

Margarita
Ingredients: Ice cubes, 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice, 1-ounce simple syrup, 1 teaspoon orange liqueur, 1 tablespoon of salt.

Directions: Wet the rim of a glass and coat with salt. Mix ice, tequila, lime juice, simple syrup and orange liqueur in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a glass filled with ice.

If you’re looking to grab a margarita while you’re out rather than make one yourself, Nantucket‘s has them—and they’re discounted during happy hour!

Mojito
Ingredients: 1-ounce fresh lime juice, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 cup ice, 12 fresh mint leaves, 2 ounces white rum, 1-ounce club soda.
Directions: Stir lime juice and sugar in a cocktail glass until dissolved. Add ice. Shred mint leaves into the glass and stir. Add rum, more ice, and club soda, then stir until chilled.

Directions: Add fruit and lemon juice to a large pitcher and stir. Add red wine, brandy, and orange juice, and stir. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, but best overnight. Serve over a glass of ice and top with sparkling water if desired.
